Summary: The Director of Research and Evaluation oversees a team that is responsible for planning and conducting internal research and evaluation studies. The Director coordinates and facilitates outside research efforts to increase knowledge about the quality and efficacy of district programs, administers district-wide surveys, and provides guidance to CMS departments on research- and program evaluation-related questions. The Director also collaborates with non-CMS researchers and streamlines data-related processes to increase the efficiency and accuracy of external studies, and manages processes and procedures that safeguard the school district, its students, teachers, and administrators.

Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.)

  • Leads a team responsible for designing and conducting research and evaluation studies on behalf of the school district.
  • Utilizes descriptive and inferential statistics (ANOVA, HLM, SEM, regressions etc.) to summarize and analyze existing and collected data.
  • Prepares and presents evaluation and survey reports.
  • Provides research team with support in analyzing data and adhering to quality control processes and protocols to ensure that research and evaluation information being disseminated is accurate.
  • Directs and oversees four district-wide survey initiatives (parent, teacher, student and principal surveys) and revises content as dictated.
  • Reviews and synthesizes prior research for use in identifying promising practices and innovations, as well as to inform literature reviews for subsequent reports.
  • Manages the efficient, accurate, and timely generation of reports or spreadsheets for large and small scale dissemination using statistical software (SAS or SQL) and Excel.
  • Serves as the Accountability Department liaison on assigned committees formed to manage district initiatives identified as evaluation priorities.
  • Collaborates with other departments to provide information and updates regarding research and evaluation projects or results.
  • Provides leadership on the outside research process when proposals are submitted by outside entities to ensure quality research is conducted in CMS schools and that all laws are followed.
  • Remains current in the field of education research through the review of journals and reports.
  • Trains, manages and evaluates analysts; working to continuously improve their performance and the quality of their reporting.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Educational Research, Psychology, Sociology, Public Policy or related field
  • Three years of experience in educational research and evaluation, survey design and deployment, or other areas requiring analytical skills
  • Focus in applied research, statistics and evaluation
  • Coursework in research design and methodology, statistics, and evaluation required.
Desireable
  • Doctorate in Educational Research and Measurement, Psychology, Political Science or related field
  • Five years of experience in educational research and evaluation, survey design and deployment, or other areas requiring analytical skills
  • Focus in applied research, statistics and evaluation
  • Coursework in research design and methodology, statistics, and evaluation required.
