The Department of Biology at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) invites applications for a 10-month, non-tenure-track Lecturer position in Anatomy and Physiology, to join our community starting in August 2024. The position is offered for an initial two-year appointment, with potential for renewal for a second two-year appointment and subsequent three-year appointments based on performance.Position Summary:
We welcome applicants who are broadly trained in anatomy and physiology and who will be passionate about teaching at a primarily undergraduate, residential, liberal arts-centered institution. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching and continuing curriculum development of upper-level Human Anatomy and Physiology I & II. Teaching responsibilities may also include courses at other levels of the biology curriculum, including courses of the candidate's design in their area of expertise that complement existing course offerings. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to advise
students and develop programming related to the growing interest in allied health careers of students in the department.Candidates should be committed to inclusive excellence in higher education, demonstrated through, for example, culturally responsive course design and pedagogy, equity-minded student engagement and mentorship, and cultivating intercultural competencies needed for meaningful citizenship. community committed to exploration and growth in pedagogical practices. Lecturers may also serve as academic advisors. Applicants should have:
● Ph.D. in Biology or a terminal degree in a closely related field (e.g., DVM, DPT, MD, PA)
● Present either evidence or promise of excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring.
● Evidence of the potential to teach upper-level human anatomy and physiology.
● Demonstrate an ability to communicate science effectively to varied audiences.
● Demonstrate cultural competency and ability to foster inclusive learning environments and mutual respect for students and colleagues, and the potential to effectively mentor minoritized students.Preferred qualifications:● Training in and/or effective use of student-centered and inquiry-based pedagogies.
● Ability to develop upper-level biology courses that complement current offerings.
● Experience in guiding or formal advising of allied health professional pathways.
● Interest and/or experience in curricular design and assessment.
● Interest and/or experience in service roles at the departmental or college level.To Apply:

Our new colleague will join a department of 15 full-time faculty, who are deeply engaged in teaching and scholarship across the discipline of biology. The Biology Department is housed in a dedicated building and is home to approximately 500 undergraduate majors, while providing learning opportunities in biology for students across campus. Our faculty members make use of state-of-the-art tools and techniques in classroom and research spaces. The Biology community hosts a regular colloquium series as well as many community building events throughout the academic year.Our curriculum has recently undergone extensive revision as part of our HHMI Inclusive Excellence award resulting in the use of scientific teaching and inclusive pedagogy throughout our curriculum. Teaching innovation is valued and actively supported by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and biology faculty regularly share pedagogical strategies at the annual Excellence in Teaching and Learning Summit.About The College of New Jersey:
