At Houston Methodist, the Postdoctoral Fellow position is responsible for performing basic research duties under the supervision/direction of a Physician (Principal Investigator). This position may work in a laboratory setting or may consist of computer work that supports the department's research mission.

Additional Information:

The primary goal of the candidate is to design and analyze a variety of cell biology and tissue engineering experiments with a focus on polymers. Their responsibilities include participating in an experimental group utilizing Dawley rats, where biodegradable scaffolds will be surgically implanted to harvest adipose tissue from surrounding areas. The candidate will conduct analysis using Image J software to evaluate parameters such as fibrous capsule thickness, indicative of foreign body reaction, and fat structural characteristics.

Furthermore, the candidate will play a significant role in assessing the effectiveness of these implants, including the injection and evaluation of adipose tissue regeneration. Additionally, they will collaborate closely with a toxicologist and the Principal Investigator (PI) to develop GLP-compliant safety studies crucial for supporting IDE/IND applications. It's important to note that the candidate's involvement is solely focused on animal research within the project, and they will not directly interact with or treat patients.

The candidate's role is integral to the BioBreast 3D Engineering project, which encompasses bioprinting and preclinical animal modeling research. Specifically, they will contribute to four key aims:
  • Scaling up the cGMP synthesis of the 3D BioBreast.
  • Validating the implantation of cGMP grade products through a non-GLP surgical study.
  • Assessing the surgical procedures in a large animal model.
  • Determining the efficacy and safety of the implant through a GLP study using a relevant rat animal model.
