REPORTS TO: Principal and District Nurse

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

WORK SCHEDULE: 185 days

Terms Of EmploymentThe Board of Education, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent of Schools, shall appoint a School Nurse. The annual period of service for a School Nurse shall be 185 days.Primary FunctionTo provide optimum health services for all students.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
  • Communicates, collaborates and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and adults
  • Manages health issues for students
  • Consults with school staff, parents and students regarding health issues
  • Acts as a liaison between school, health department, physicians, and other health agencies to coordinate care for students
  • Provides emergency crisis nursing care for ill or injured
  • Provides health counseling to students
  • As needed, coordinates with school personnel to adequately represent school at Wellness Committee Meetings
  • Assists schools with immunization requirements and health screenings for students
  • Administers daily and PRN (as needed) medications as prescribed and in accordance with established protocols
  • Adheres to, and assist in training others in, best practices for the management of student health needs associated with diabetes, asthma, food allergies and other know student medical needs for which the school is required to be monitor
  • Ensures required permissible health related documentation is entered into the district's system of records
  • Provides emergency care in crisis situations until first responders arrive

EvaluationMinimum of 5 years of successful nursing experience preferred

Performance of this job shall be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
