This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Operations Manager to join our Center for Advanced Genome Engineering (CAGE).
The CAGE has three missions:
1) facilitate investigator-initiated genome editing projects using CRISPR-Cas9
2) perform independent R&D to evaluate and develop new genome editing techniques
3) to assist the gene and cell therapy programs at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Shondra Pruett-Miller laboratory offers a strong team-based environment where you will work collaboratively with other investigators across the institution to support their research needs and develop and improve genome engineering technologies.
In this position, you will lead the Custom CRISPR Library service. You will stay up to date on current CRISPR screening technologies and adapt and incorporate them into current workflows to aid St. Jude investigators with their research. Duties will also include designing, cloning, and analyzing CRISPR libraries designed for knockout, inhibition, and activation screens. You will help fellow team members with their own designs and analyses. Your experience will also be used for developing and implementing bioinformatic workflows which aid CAGE lab members in CRISPR design and NGS analysis.
Successful candidates should display competencies in the following areas:
- Understanding of and experience with molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extractions, PCR, and plasmid cloning
- In depth knowledge and experience with CRISPR screens and analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Creative and self-motivated
- Experience with programming in python or other coding language is a plus
- Experience with liquid handling robots a plus
- Comfortable in a Linux environment and working on a cluster
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize work based on need
- Ability to track and execute multiple projects at once
- Experience with Next-Generation Sequencing analysis is a plus

Coordinates all aspects of scientific operations of a department or shared resource(s). Ensures operations adhere to institutional, state and federal regulations. In coordination with departmental leadership, develops laboratory operating procedures. Participates in the development and monitoring of capital and operational budgets, the negotiation of new contracts and the renewal of existing contracts. May supervise staff. Contributes to the scientific direction of the laboratory in partnership with Principal Investigator
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with leadership to implement and maintain departmental or shared resource policies and standard operating procedures to support efficient operations. Monitors operations and workflow to identify inefficiencies and works with leadership to develop corrective action. Works with leadership to develop quality control processes and procedures.
- May supervise staff
- Works with leadership and department staff to ensure effective and efficient use of space within the department and shared resource(s)
- Participates in the development of capital and operating budget. Implements mechanisms for monitoring expenses. Reviews and approves purchasing requests.
- Participates in the negotiation of new contracts and renewal of existing contracts. Ensures contractual requirements are met and collaborates with vendors to enhance operations.
- Participates in the design, construction, equipping of shared resource(s). Coordinates preventative maintenance and repair to ensure safe and efficient operation. Orders new and replacement equipment. Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies.
- Collaborates with leadership to implement and maintain compliance and safety policies and procedures. Leads group of senior scientific support staff to investigate and resolve in non-compliance issues.
- May lead multiple aspects of research projects and carry out laboratory experiments and determine whether additional or other tools or methods are required. May provide input regarding research protocols and experiments.
- Performs other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Bachelor's degree is required
Minimum Experience:
- Seven (7) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required
- Five (5) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
- Three (3) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a PhD
- Leadership or supervisory experience is required
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Research Operations Manager in St. Jude's Center for Advanced Genome Engineering.Explore our exceptional benefits!
