The European Synchrotron, the ESRF, is an international research centre based in Grenoble, France.

In the context of the ESRF upgrade programme, a facilitated and regular access (the "historical materials BAG") has been implemented to analyze historical materials with X-ray diffraction techniques. Thanks to the instruments high throughput, more than 500 samples from artistic materials are analyzed every year. As part of a group of 10 engineers, you will participate in a project focussing on the implementation of FAIR data management practices of datasets collected through this BAG. You will work in close collaboration with software engineers working on data management, databases, data processing, metadata collection and web portals. You will interact with scientists and users to automate their needs in data management.
Your missions will be the following:
create a database, containing processed data and relevant metadata of the Heritage BAG experiments implement tools to better acquire and store data and metadata implement tools to better analyze data and ultimately exploit the database and the BAG data corpus train the BAG users in the use of these tools and in following Open Science best practices Further information about the post can be obtained from Marine Cotte (marine.cotte@esrf.fr).
The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.

- Higher university degree (Master or equivalent diploma offering 300 ECTS)in Computer Science, Engineering, Science or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of professional experience.
- Good to high knowledge of Python.
- Good to high knowledge of metadata and data formats.
- Basic to good knowledge of workflows.
- Knowledge and experience developing web applications.
- An interest in scientific research will be a plus.
- Familiarity working on a Linux environment.
- Good communication and team spirit.
- Proficiency in English (working language at the ESRF)
- Experience with ReactJS will be considered an advantage
The salary will be calculated on the basis of relevant qualifications and professional experience.
