The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. Using the latest technologies, our pathologists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases.

Responsibilities:
The SRA will monitor and sample mice during the course of immunization, challenge and mating; perform immunological assays, including ELISA, Western blots, lymphoproliferative assays and FACS analyses; collection, processing and storage of vaginal cultures, blood and tissues for testing and the quantitation of C. trachomatis and C. muridarum from vaginal swabs. The SRA will daily monitor the health status of the mice following the immunization and the transcervical challenge. He/she will cage male and female mice and follow the course of the pregnancy by weighing the females. The SRA will help Drs. Pal and Slepenkin to euthanize pregnant mice and count the number of embryos. He/she will assist in the collection of the genital tracts of female mice to be processed. The SRA will maintain cell lines, grow the stocks of C. trachomatis and C. muridarum and will also help with the processing of native and recombinant MOMP

Qualifications:
Required:

Experience working with mice

Experience performing humoral and cellular immunological assays

Experience with tissue culture

Experience working with bacteria

Experience writing protocols

Experience running protein and nucleic acid gels.

Bachelor of Science

A minimum of 3 years of experience Working with experimental animals in particular mice

A minimum of 3 years of experience Working in a basic research lab

Preferred:

Experience collecting data, doing statistical analysis and generating figures and tables
