The annual base salary for this position ranges from $161,600.00 to $269,400.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program. ROLE SUMMARY
- The Therapeutic Area (TA) Scientific Communications Lead will report to the Head of Medical Strategy Management in Pfizer Oncology Medical.
- The role will serve as a key interface between Oncology Medical and Development TA teams, US and International Field Medical teams and Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) to ensure that overall scientific communication and content strategy and channel-specific communication strategies reflect TA priorities and that tactical execution of medical and scientific communication activities occurs successfully and according to strategy.
- As a core member of the Medical Sub-Team (MST) on the Global Product Team (GPT), the incumbent will be accountable for establishing the Scientific Communication Platform (SCP) for products in their Therapeutic Area, and ensuring alignment of each product's overall scientific content/communications strategy reflect the input and requirements of relevant Pfizer Oncology stakeholders (e.g., Medical Strategy, Field Medical, Clinical Development, Scientific Affairs, Research, etc.) and International Oncology Medical Affairs.
- The incumbent will also be responsible for leading engagement with Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) and other enterprise stakeholders as needed to ensure that channel-specific communications strategies and plans are developed and reflect Pfizer Oncology TA teams' and Field Medical needs. Examples of channel-specific strategies and plans include publications strategy, congress strategy, data amplification and dissemination plans, field content strategy, medical education strategy, etc.
- The incumbent will also act as a strategic advisor to their TA medical team, providing cross-functional guidance and subject matter expertise to foster the creation of effective scientific communication tools, content, and other Scientific Communication deliverables, contributing to the successful development and education of Oncology assets.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for strategic oversight of Therapeutic Area (TA) scientific communication activities and the overarching scientific narrative, ensuring strategic alignment and excellence in delivery.
- Accountable for ensuring strategic input from a broad range of stakeholders (internal and external) is integrated into scientific communications strategic planning to meet the needs of these stakeholders and especially the Oncology Medical TA team.
- Responsible for identifying the need for and establishing the Scientific Communications Platform (SCP) for TA products early in development based on target profile, clinical evidence, disease state / landscape, and aspirational label.
- For later life-cycle assets, determine the need for and enrich the SCP (based on cross-functional input in the MST) with evolving evidence from clinical studies, insights, the Clinical Development Plan and regulatory strategy to ensure teams use accurate, consistent language and referencing aligned with the overarching MST strategy.
- Ensure the product-level SCP is aligned to the broader Therapeutic Area, tumor and/or modality scientific narrative.
- Accountable for ensuring the creation of the holistic global Publications Plan for each asset that accurately reflects the SCP and strategic needs of the Global Medical TA team, to be reviewed at MSTs and endorsed by the GPT. Provide strategic oversight of Pfizer Oncology driven publications in collaboration with Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) and provide visibility to the MST on the progress on overarching publication plan delivery, metrics, and alignment to the SCP.
- Work closely with clinical study teams during data readouts to determine key messages and publication content (aligned to overall publication strategy and SCP).
- Ensure updates to global publication plans occur as needed on a regular basis.
- Accountable for ensuring the creation of a holistic global scientific congress strategy for their TA. This includes ensuring the inclusion of the needs of a wide variety of stakeholders (particularly the Global Medical TA team) into strategic planning, prioritizing areas of interest from the scientific community for inclusion at congress exhibits, prioritizing key scientific messages, ensuring alignment with the SCP, and leading collaboration with Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) on execution activities (e.g., booth design, data amplification strategy and tactics, etc.).
- Ensure updates to global congress strategy and content occurs as needed on a regular basis in coordination with key cross-functional stakeholders, including commercial and Medical TA teams and platforms.
- Accountable for ensuring the strategy and creation of field medical content is aligned with the needs of the Pfizer Oncology Global Medical TA team and regional/local Medical Affairs. Ensure aligned of such plans to the SCP. Responsible for partnering with Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) and regional/local teams on execution against strategy.
- Responsible for building collaborative relationships with relevant partners in the Pfizer U.S. (Medical Platforms) to ensure optimal creation and execution of channel-specific TA medical communications strategies.
- Support GPTs, Global Medical franchises, and other Pfizer Oncology stakeholders in engaging with the external medical community on publication activities related to key clinical trial data readouts.
- Lead development of the asset scientific engagement plan (with KOLs, HCPs, AHPs and decision-makers) in support of TA activities (ensuring local Pfizer team input). Identify potential members for steering boards / PIs / etc. for Pfizer Oncology driven programs.
- Deliver internal communications around new scientific and clinical data on medicines and disease areas of interest, coordinating content with medical agencies as appropriate. Ensure appropriate internal communications pre- and post- congress on key Pfizer and competitor data.
- Work with Pfizer Oncology Scientific Affairs to develop communications for non-medical audiences e.g., Board, Investor Relations, etc.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant biopharmaceutical/biotech or agency experience (such as Medical Communications, Medical Affairs or scientific communication within Clinical Development roles).
- Experience developing strategic scientific communications and other scientific content to support scientific exchange, including the use of tools and programs to meet the needs of HCPs.
- Have a strong understanding of Medical Affairs, including medical strategies, disease areas, and objectives.
- Experience working in a highly regulated environment and delivering scientific content in a compliant yet innovative manner, leveraging the latest technologies to ease the consumption of critical scientific information.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific concepts and data into meaningful and digestible communications and foundational tools that can be utilized via multiple channels including at scientific conferences.
- Experienced working in cross-functional teams to deliver projects to schedule in a fast-paced environment.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS
- Oncology experience strongly preferred.
- Advanced medical/scientific degree (MS, PhD, PharmD), with 8+ years' experience (if Masters) or 6+ years' experience (if PhD or PharmD)
