The Opportunity
The position of Screening Technician II is within our Toxicology Division of Abbott located at Richmond, VA. In this role, you will be in the position for a Screening Technician II as defined by SAMSHA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) in the Richmond SAMHSA-certified laboratory of Alere Toxicology Services. The individual filling this position will be responsible for operating the instruments used to perform the initial analysis on urine and oral fluid specimens for substances of abuse with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations.
What You'll Work On
Operation and maintenance of the Screening Instruments and initial review of data
Knowledge of all screening methods
Troubleshoot issues with screening instruments
Be able to meet turnaround goals and complete assigned tasks daily
Adherence to all standard operating procedures ensuring confidentiality of donor information
Adherence to all established guidelines outlined in Abbott's Employee Handbook
Screen all sample types on the analyzer
Cross train in Negative Certification
Discard specimens after analyzed
Complete all screen actions prior to the end of shift
Required Business Travel Requirements:
Travel to other domestic Alere offices may also be required
Additional Comments:
The individual may be required to work varying shifts or weekends to perform the Essential Functions
Required Qualifications
BS degree in science or equivalent related field
Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures.
Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
Advanced ability to understand certification requirements for SAMSHA, CAP-PUDT, and other relevant regulatory bodies
Basic ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
Basic understanding of drugs that are tested

The base pay for this position is $17.80 - $35.60 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
