Our programs seek to prepare professionals who are critically educated, socially intelligent, ethically aware, and culturally sensitive. Our diverse team consists of 12 full-time faculty with various professional and research backgrounds, two dedicated and talented staff members, and a group of part-time affiliate faculty with a depth of industry experience. For more on the department, please visit: .Position SummaryThe Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at MSU Denver invites applications for a full-time faculty lecturer position starting Spring 2025. The successful candidate must have the desire and ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse, urban population. This position has the potential to continue past spring semester.ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will perform the following job responsibilities:
  • Carry a 4/4 teaching load, i.e., 12 credit hours per (fall and spring) semester
  • Teach introductory and advanced courses in Criminal Justice & Criminology
  • Advise and be able to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of students from a diverse, and non-traditional student population in an urban environment
  • Provide service to improve the welfare of the University at all levels and provide public service to the community and professional organizations which benefits the University, and
  • Publish scholarly articles and make scholarly presentationsat refereed conferences and community eventsRequired QualificationsMinimum education/work experience includes one of the following:
    • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology ) and four years of teaching experience or
    • JD, plus four years of teaching experience or
    • ABD in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Criminal Justice or Criminology ) and four years of teachingPreferred Qualifications
      • ABD or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a closely related/relevant field (with specialization in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity, Criminal Justice and/or Criminology)
      • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a diverse student body and faculty, especially ethnic minorities
      • Effective verbal and written communication skills
      • Ability to apply current computer and other technologies in the classroom
      • Ability to teach in the areas below that are listed in order of priority/preference:1. Cyberlaw/Cybersecurity
        • ABD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline
        • Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in cyber security, cyber law, cyber investigations and/or other criminal justice courses related to the field
        • Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in cyber crime or cyber security at the local, state or federal level2. Corrections/Penology
          • ABD, or earned Doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related social science discipline
          • Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in corrections, probation, parole, community corrections, and other criminal justice courses related to the field
          • Criminal justice work experience, especially managerial experience in corrections, probation, parole, or community corrections at the local, state or federal level.3. Criminology
            • Ability to teach a wide variety of courses in cybersecurity, criminology and criminal justice. Ability to teach introductory and advanced courses such as cyber law, cyber investigations, criminology, criminological theory, research methods and other criminal justice courses related to the field
            • Teaching experience and/or criminal justice workSalary for AnnouncementThe salary range for this position is $52,000 - $58,000 at Lecturer level.
