Responsibilities

The Institute of Plant Science and Microbiology is seeking a Junior Professor (W1) of Molecular Biology of Plants.

The professorship is expected to make a significant contribution to molecular and/or cell biology research in the field of plant biology.

The professorship may focus on experimental molecular biology of plants - for example, in the field of cell division (mitosis/meiosis) - the dynamics of chromosomes, and/or DNA repair. Other possible directions include computer‑based analyses of plant biological imaging and video material, as well as the development of AI‑based evaluation methods.

Participation in new and established collaborative projects - particularly in the fields of molecular, biochemical, and cell biology - in the faculty and at the University is also desirable(https://www.uni-hamburg.de/en/forschung/forschungsprofil/forschungsschwerpunkte.html).

The successful applicant is expected to teach in the molecular, cell biology, and biochemistry fields in the biology subjects included in the bachelor's and master's degree programs of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. In addition, participation in the field of big data is desired.

Your profile

This junior professorship is aimed at early career researchers. We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding academic track record and research experience in the professorship field.

Applicants are expected to have an outstanding doctorate in the field of molecular biology, biochemistry, or cell biology. Alternatively, this may also be an outstanding doctorate in computer sciences with a focus on analyzing biological datasets, particularly in the field of imaging. For holders of an experimental doctorate, experience with plants is desired.

Applicants are expected to have relevant publications in the research areas listed above. Experience acquiring external funding and carrying out externally funded projects is desirable. Initial experience with university teaching is also desired, with international experience welcome.
