This job announcement will be accepting candidates submissions until 11 October 2024.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Serves as the senior (chief) scientist for the division.
- Provides scientific advice and counsel to the division chief, division chief engineer, branch chiefs, technical advisors, principal investigators and program managers conducting basic and applied research, advanced technology development, and field testing of High-Power Electromagnetic (HPEM) weapon system technology.
- Ensures division remains aligned with scientific research areas contributing to the priorities of the directorate, AFRL and higher headquarters.
- Engages with division technical advisors to ensure alignment of goals, priorities, and resources.
- Guides the design, building, testing, and integration of HPEM systems and subsystems.
- Assists in the creation of physics models, including both HPEM and other phenomenology, for inclusion into rapid modeling tools and other simulation tools.
- Assists the transition of these models to the laboratory for development and assist in the transition of the developed hardware to external end-users.
- Advises division leadership and Core Technical Competency (CTC) personnel on the technical and scientific feasibility of proposed and on-going research.
- Recommends areas of future HPEM research to the division chief, directorate, AFRL and higher headquarters.
- Engages with the scientific community, both internally and externally, to collaborate and exchange ideas and research to further HPEM technology development.
- Promotes a culture where intellectual Property (IP) is developed, documented, protected and encouraged.
- Inherent in the technical publication review process is a thorough screening for potential IP.
- Scientific knowledge will be utilized to effectively assist in IP transfer, transition or commercialization.
- Experience with RF technology preferred. PhD in physics or engineering preferred.

Required Qualifications
- US Citizenship
- This position requires a TS Clearance.
- This is an APDP position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering & Technical Management (N).
This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
