The Department of Economics at The University of Western Ontario invites applications for one probationary (tenure track) at the rank of assistant or associate professor or tenured appointment at the rank of associate professor in Economics. This position is affiliated with our Master of Financial Economics program. The research specialization for the appointment can be in Econometrics, Financial Econometrics, Financial Economics, International Finance, Macroeconomics, or Theory. The position requires teaching in Western’s Master of Financial Economics program. See https://economics.uwo.ca/MFE/course_information.html for a list of courses. The tenured associate professor position also requires serving as Director of the Master of Financial Economics Program for a three-year (renewable) term. Unless otherwise specified, this appointment is effective July 1, 2025, but an alternate starting date may be arranged. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications:
For a probationary appointment, the candidate must have completed (or be very close to completion of) a doctoral degree in Economics or Finance. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence or clear promise of excellence in research, including the ability to publish in the highest quality academic outlets, and in teaching, including the ability to successfully teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Candidates must have excellent oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
For a tenured appointment, the candidate must have completed a doctoral degree in Economics or Finance. The successful candidate must provide evidence of top research and impact through publications in the highest quality academic outlets and be an internationally recognized expert in their field of research evidenced through activities such as journal editorship, invited talks, and grant receipt. Successful candidates will provide evidence of successful teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level such as high course evaluations, teaching awards, development of new academic programs/courses, and supervision of graduate students. Priority will be given to candidates who have administrative experience including proven management of faculty, students, and/or staff. Candidates must have excellent oral communication, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
Duties:
A probationary appointment requires course delivery primarily in the Master of Financial Economics Program with additional courses in the Economics undergraduate and graduate programs. The position also requires supervision of graduate students, maintaining an active research program including applying for external grant funds and some administrative duties.
A tenured associate professor position requires serving as Director of the Master of Financial Economics Program for a three-year (renewable) term. Duties include course delivery in the Master of Financial Economics, economics undergraduate and graduate programs, supervision of graduate students, maintaining an active research program including applying for external grant funds.
