Joining our Social Work and Sociology team, the Adjunct Faculty will be responsible for the following:
Soc 201: Introduction to Sociology
The Daemen University Department of Social Work and Sociology is hiring an adjunct instructor to teach "Introduction to Sociology." This position requires the instructor to deliver engaging instruction on foundational sociological theories, methodologies, and key concepts including but not limited to culture, socialization, stratification, and social institutions such as the family, education, religion, economics, politics, and social change.
The faculty member should also be comfortable facilitating discussions and activities that encourage critical thinking and real-world application of content. Responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, grading assignments, assessing student performance, and offering academic support through office hours or by appointment.
Qualified candidates should have a minimum of a Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field, with prior teaching experience in higher education preferred. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills and a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for diverse students. Experience with learning management systems and classroom technology is preferred, as is the ability to bring diverse perspectives into course materials
Soc 303: Sociology of Family
The Daemen University Department of Social Work and Sociology is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach "Sociology of Family." This course examines the family as a social institution, exploring its structures, functions, and the diverse forms it takes across cultures and history. The instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering course content that encourages critical analysis of family dynamics, relationships, and the impact of social policies on family life.
Key responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, creating assignments and assessments, leading class discussions, and providing timely feedback to students. Additionally, the instructor is expected to maintain office hours to support student learning and engagement.
Candidates should possess a minimum of a Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field, with a focus on family studies or related areas. Prior teaching experience at the college level is preferred, particularly in courses related to family sociology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and proficiency with learning management systems and classroom technology.
$3000 per semester
