Job Details

Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Thermodynamics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will be required to undertake high quality experimental research in the general areas of thermal systems, energy conversion, efficiency and conservation or industrial thermodynamics, to supervise researchers and to teach in areas compatible with the interests and activities of the Department. Candidates working in the areas of thermal power systems, waste heat recovery, geothermal and allied technologies, solar thermal systems, process heat generation and thermal systems for the food chain, or other new and emerging fields of thermal engineering research are encouraged to apply.

The University of Auckland is New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 30 academic staff, 600 undergraduates and 140 postgraduate students. We provide BE (Hons) degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, together with a range of postgraduate taught courses.

We offer a diverse and active community for research at and above postgraduate level, and we are proud of our strong international reputation for the quality of our research outputs. Our research activities broadly concern thermofluids, smart manufacturing, mechatronics, acoustics, dynamics, control, industrial automation, micro-systems and smart materials, mechanics of materials, composites, medical devices and rehabilitation robotics. We have collaborative links with research groups and industry within New Zealand and across the world.

You will work as part of the Thermofluids group and will be required to develop research collaborations with researchers both within and outside the group and attract research funding, nationally and/or internationally. You will contribute to our taught programmes in areas relevant to your specialisation. You will be committed to the development and delivery of curricula and courses and have excellent communication skills. You will also contribute to the wider activities of the relevant research and teaching groups and perform service roles for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

You will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area, together with post-doctoral research, teaching and/or industrial experience. You will also have a demonstrated ability to conduct research, have supervised, or intend to supervise postgraduate students, and a strong track record of published research.
