Senior Assistant Officer (post level 12)

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform general administrative and office responsibilities with regard to research activities.
  • Perform general office administration, e.g. typing correspondence, meeting management, filing, record-keeping, handling of telephonic and general enquiries.
  • Liaise between the Faculty and the Research Development Department with regard to RIMS, and perform all tasks related to this.
  • Handle arrangements for and administration of Faculty Research Forum, including the following:
  • Sending circular letters,
  • Collecting and distributing articles and abstracts,
  • Compiling forum programme; and
  • Other logistical arrangements.

    Inherent requirements:

  • Relevant post school qualification.
  • Three (3) years’ relevant office administrative experience. 

    Required competencies:

  • Computer skills related to MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Have a client centred approach.
  • The ability to function effectively under pressure.
  • Business acumen.
  • Results orientated.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Building coalitions.
  • Leading.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and, the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment.


  • Previous applicable experience in a higher education institution/research.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft / RIMS.
  • Proficiency in Sesotho will serve as a strong recommendation.
