Job Details

Duties and responsibilities:

 

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in English Language Education in particular.
  • Participate in the work integrated learning programme of the Faculty (teaching practice).
  • Ensure active involvement in research activities of the faculty.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the field of English Language Education in particular and Languages Education generally.
  • Supervise and provide consultation sessions for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Work in a team with colleagues within the Faculty. 
  • Contribute to leadership and administrative tasks related to the school and Faculty. 

 

Inherent requirements: 

Lecturer: 

  • A relevant Master's degree in Education with specialisation in the teaching and learning of English Language Education.
  • Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at academic conferences or equivalent activities.
  • Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in an accredited journal.
  • Two (2) years' teaching experience in a post-school education environment or in teacher education.

 

Senior Lecturer: 

  • A relevant Doctoral degree in Education with specialisation in English Language Education.
  • Three (3) years' experience of teaching English Language Education modules at university level.
  • Proven experience in the presentation of papers at national scholarly conferences.
  • Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research in a specific area of scholarship.
  • An NRF rating or demonstrate potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
  • Proven experience in supervision of graduated Master's and/or Doctoral students.
  • A proven research record of relevant publications in national and international accredited journals.
  • Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.

 

Required competencies: 

  • Teaching experience in English Language Education.
  • Knowledge of- and the ability to use Learning Management Systems (LMS) for teaching and assessment. 
  • Familiarity with inclusive pedagogic practices and alternative assessment strategies. 
  • Good research skills and writing abilities.
  • Sound interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Good computer literacy skills.

 

Recommendations:  

Lecturer: 

  • A relevant Doctoral degree in Education with specialisation in English Language Education. 
  • Proven research record of relevant publications in the national and/or international accredited journals.
  • Evidence of previous involvement in engaged scholarship.
  • Experience in postgraduate supervision.

 

Assumption of duties: 

As soon as possible.
