Job purpose

This post is based in the Human Biomaterials Resource Centre (HBRC) which resides within the Advanced Therapies Facility (ATF) in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences. The ATF also houses both gene and cellular therapy manufacturing suites. The ATF is a quality controlled environment regulated by both the MHRA and the HTA.

The HBRC provides sample procurement, processing, analytical and hosting services to both local and external biomedical research groups. Much of the activity is carried out under the HBRC regulatory infrastructure i.e. samples are procured, processed and stored/released under the HTA research licence and Research Tissue Bank ethical approval covering the facility. However, the number of clinical studies being conducted under project-specific governance arrangements wishing to use the HBRC services has increased. Several large research programmes in both the academic and commercial setting have either started to use the facility, or are due to start imminently. The HBRC is providing sample processing, analysis and storage services, and for many of the projects involved, the activity must be performed to standards compliant with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) regulations.

Also essential will be a sound knowledge of the regulations, legislation and governance arrangements applicable to clinical research, experience of handling human samples and good interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.
