Position summary

The University of São Paulo's São Carlos Physics Institute (IFSC-USP) is offering five post-doctoral vacancies in the areas of Experimental Atomic Physics with Cold Atoms, Biophotonics and Nanophotonics/Plasmonics. The research activities will take place at the Optics and Photonics Research Center (CEPOF), one of the Research, Innovation and Dissemination Centers (RIDCs) funded by the São Paulo Research Foundation -- FAPESP. The positions have duration of one or two years and include a FAPESP scholarship with a yearly stipend of R$96,000.00 and possibly funding for moving expenses.

Two of the five vacancies are dedicated to research in Experimental Atomic Physics with Cold Atoms, which encompasses areas such as quantum turbulence; thermodynamics of cold atoms; light scattering and optical lattices; and dipolar quantum gases. The projects aim to investigate novel effects in cold atoms in Bose-Einstein condensates of Na, K, Rb, and Dy, as well as cooperative light scattering in Sr. Candidates must have PhD degree (or close graduation) in Physics, Engineering in related areas, as well as two recommendation letters. Contact information and correspondence email: kilvia@ifsc.usp.br.

Two other positions at RIDC CEPOF will be devoted to research in Biophotonics, encompassing areas such as advances in Photodynamic Therapy; phototherapy and combination with other treatment modalities; microorganism control using photonics strategies; environmental and food safety; photodiagnostics using imaging and spectroscopy; and optical instrumentation for medical devices. The projects aim to investigate innovative aspects in Biophotonics for designing new optical applications in Life Sciences. The candidate must have PhD degree (or close graduation) in Physics, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences in related areas, as well as two recommendation letters. Contact information and correspondence email: cristina@ifsc.usp.br.

One post-doctoral position is available in the field of Nanophotonics/Plasmonics, which include areas of interest such as interaction of Plasmon-Polaritons with quantum emitters; plasmonic metamaterials for sensing applications; growth of materials (semiconductors or glasses or oxides) for Nanophotonics/Plasmonics applications; planar metamaterials (hyperbolic media); diffractive optics (which includes binary phase holograms, optical filtering, optical interconnects, etc.); and integration of plasmonic metamaterials and microelectronic devices for lab-on-a-chip applications. The projects aim to investigate innovative aspects in the field. The candidates must have PhD degree (or close graduation) in Physics or Engineering, as well as two recommendation letters. Contact information and correspondence email: euclydes@ifsc.usp.br.

Application details

The deadline for applying to any of these positions is April 2, 2019. Applicants must send via email the following documents:

  1. CV with list of publications and expertise;
  2. One page statement about the interest in the areas of interest;
  3. Name and contact information of the providers of the recommendation letters.

Candidates selection will be done by the faculties of the CEPOF. Activities are expected to begin August 2019.
