Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Mathematics and Physics
The discipline of Physics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics in the Faculty of Science. The discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence in quantum science and hosts a number of first class research centres.
The School of Mathematics and Physics leads the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Engineered Quantum Systems and hosts nodes of the ARC CoE for Future Low-Energy Electronics Technologies and ARC CoE for Quantum Computing and Communication Technology.
Details of the research interests of academic staff may be accessed on the school's web site at http://www.smp.uq.edu.au/.
The successful appointee will actively contribute to an internationally recognized experimental research program in the area of optical micromanipulation and optogenetics, as well as teaching undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses in physics. The focus of the research will be on creating sculptured light, and using optical tweezers in combination with optogenetics and Selective Plane Illumination Microscopy (SPIM) for brain-wide imaging in zebrafish. The aim of the project is to map ensembles of neurons throughout the brain responding to sensory stimuli, and thereby explain the mechanisms by which brain-wide communication may be altered.
Applicants should possess a PhD and have postdoctoral experience in in an area of interdisciplinary experimental physics related to optical micromanipulation and neuroscience. They should be able to demonstrate their potential for quality teaching of courses in physics. Applicants should also have a track-record of high-quality publications in leading international journals, high-level verbal and written communication skills, and the capacity to work and interact well with colleagues, staff, and students.
This is a full-time, fixed-term (3 years) appointment at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be at $83,295 p.a. - 89,285 p.a. plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17%.
