Karolinska Institutet, Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset seeks a Professor in Care Sciences combined with clinical duty as specialist trained nurse at Södersjukhuset - with focus on education and research

The Department of Clinical Science and Education Södersjukhuset, pursues undergraduate education,
research education and internationally recognized research focusing on common diseases and injuries.
The goal of all activities is to improve human health. The department has about 50 employees, 80
graduate students, 140 affiliated and a turnover of 70 million.

Division
Sachs' Children and Youth Hospital is part of Södersjukhuset (Stockholm South General Hospital), and is
one of Sweden’s largest children’s hospitals. The organisation offers specialised paediatric care for
children and young people and employs approximately 600 people. The hospital’s accident and
emergency department is one of the largest in the country, visited by in the region of 30,000 patients
annually, while Södersjukhuset’s maternity unit generates approximately 1,000 admissions to Sachs'
neonatal unit. A great deal of research activity is linked to Sachs' Children and Youth Hospital.
Researcher’s at the clinic are organised into various research groups, as well as five large research
networks (lung/allergies, diabetes, gastrointestinal, cardiology/neurology/neonatology and global health)
within which researchers regularly meet.

Duties
The employment has focus on education and research. The employee should be responsible for- and
examiner of courses within the nurse and specialist nurse programs as well as freestanding courses at
Karolinska Institutet. The applicant is expected to actively participate in the education and supervise at
all levels of education including PhD students.
The applicant should be an academic leader in Care Sciences at the Department at Södersjukhuset and
Karolinska Institutet and practise research on an international level regarding any common disease.
Important parts of the duties are to actively apply for external research grants, follow the development of
Care Sciences as well as the social development which has significance for the employee’s work at KI.
The professorship will be combined with duty as a specialist nurse in Paediatric Care at Sachs' Children
and Youth Hospital at Södersjukhuset. The employment involves 30 % clinical duties and 70 % research/
education.

Eligibility requirements
To be eligible for employment as Professor the applicant must have demonstrated both research- and
teaching expertise, as well as management-, development- and collaborative skills and clinical expertise.

applicant shall also have completed courses of 10 weeks (or equivalent competence) of higher education
training in teaching in accordance with Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions
recommendations for qualification as a higher education teacher or have otherwise obtained equivalent
knowledge. There is a requirement to speak and write Swedish fluently.
The position will be combined with a position as specialist trained nurse in Paediatric Care at Sachs'
Children and Youth Hospital and therefore the candidate must have suitable specialist nurse training as
well as fulfill the National Board of Health and Welfare's requirements for practicing medicine in
Sweden.

Bases of assessment
The Professorship has focus on education and research. In the evaluation of the application emphasis will
be placed on educational expertise. The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: research
expertise (2), educational expertise (3), clinical expertise (1) and leadership-, development- and
collaboration expertise (2).
After an overall assessment of the expertise and merits of the candidates, KI will judge which of the
candidates that have the best potential to contribute to a positive development of the activities at KI.
