Project details

The IJL a joint research unit (UMR 7198) of CNRS and Université de Lorraine. It is linked to the Institute of Chemistry of CNRS.

Its research activities are led by 23 research group sorganized into 4 scientific departments :
  • Physics of Matter and Materials Department
  • Chemistry and Physics of Solids and Surfaces Department
  • Materials Science and Engineering - Metallurgy Department
  • Nanomaterials, Electronics and Living Systems Department

They are supported by 8 competence centers and 3 support services.

The research will be performed within the 304 Physics, Mechanics, and Plasticity research team.

Requirements
  • Basic (i.e. Master level) knowledge of the processing of metals and alloys and if possible steels.
  • Experience (PhD or post-Doctoral level) in the mechanical behavior of metals and alloys (Plasticity and fracture Mechanics).
  • Experience in using the basic tools of material characterization (SEM, TEM, XRD....)
  • If possible experience in construction/modification of experimental devices and/or in use of synchrotron radiation.

Duties
  • Review of the state-of-the-art in the knowledge of the very high temperature mechanical behaviour
  • Define the range of experimental parameters (temperature, stress, strain rate) to study, then the technical specifications of the upgraded HT straining device.
  • Oversee the technical realization and the tests of the device.
  • Prepare and take part to in situ XRD experiments using the upgraded device.
  • During the second year of the postdoc, treatment of the experimental, analysis and publication of the results.
  • Upgrade of a high temperature straining device and first in situ tests of the very high temperature mechanical behaviour of cast steels using synchrotron radiation.
