Job Purpose

This post offers comprehensive and advanced administration services within the College of Arts and Law (CAL), supporting students, academic and professional services staff across the range of taught and research programmes offered within CAL. The post holder may support administration in any of the five schools that comprise CAL, or it may support programme administration centrally as circumstances necessitate. The post holder will develop specialist knowledge of the programmes in their area and develop a wide range of skills, both technical and administrative, to ensure the College's programme administration service is delivered to the requisite standard. The post-holder will work within a team of administrators who share responsibility for the activities in hand, but will also have the opportunity to lead on given tasks within that team.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to other areas of the School/College (as and when required) in support of the College's strategic priorities.

Person Specification
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adherence to Data Protection Law in all areas of work.
  • Data accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Time management. I.e. you will be adept at organising and prioritising your own workload, as well as planning ahead.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, to deal effectively and appropriately with a range of people, including staff, students and visitors.
  • Commitment and experience in providing a high level of customer service.
  • Fast and accurate IT skills (MS Office) with a good knowledge of on-line systems as well as the ability to learn and use a diverse cross section of IT software.
  • A high degree of accuracy with written English and numerical data.
  • Strong verbal and logical reasoning skills.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Capability to service committees and to take accurate/concise minutes.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a range of tasks simultaneously and prioritise own workload.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently.
  • The ability to transfer existing knowledge to new situations without direct supervision whilst also working well within a team.
  • Understanding of the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace.
  • The ability to identify and respond to equality and diversity issues in line with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Flexibility towards duties and willingness to adopt different practices and sets of duties within the scope of the role as dictated by the needs of the College.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative team environment and to be flexible about responsibilities.
  • The will and ability to be flexible and adaptable in busy periods.
  • Substantial professional experience in similar roles; or
  • 5 GCSEs to a minimum of grade C including English and Mathematics (or equivalent qualifications).
