The role

The successful applicant will take a leading role in an Australian Research Council industry sponsored program of research to reconstruct the palaeo-environment of the Kimberley region of northwest Australia. Throughout your appointment you will be expected to actively engage with other researchers including research degree students working on the research project. Your key responsibilties will be to plan and coordinate fieldwork including logistics, obtaining permissions and/or permits to access field sites, and engagement with local communities and other research programs in the Kimberley. You will coordinate and lead collection and analysis of paleo-environmental archives including sediments collected from swamps and lakes to develop a regional paleo-environmental record for the Kimberley. You will work with numerical modellers to integrate understanding of the Kimberley's paleo-environment with numerically modelled paleo-climate surfaces for the Kimberley. You will have responsibility for publishing results in leading peer reviewed journals and will present research findings to industry partners and stakeholders in the wider community.

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in Physical Geography, Geology, Environmental Science or related discipline. You should have demonstrated experience in the area of paleoclimate/paleo-environment reconstruction using a diverse range of proxy data and dating of geologic archives. Applicants require the ability to establish effective relationships and to work collaboratively with stakeholders.

Remuneration

This is a full-time fixed term appointment at Academic level A. The remuneration package will be in the range of $67,542 to $90,982 plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $79,025 to $106,449).
