Are you passionate about delivering an exceptional student experience in a top-ranked Russell Group University?

Can you provide a world-class teaching experience in cutting-edge sport and exercise biomechanics?

We are seeking a highly motivated and successful biomechanist to contribute to and further enhance the world-class teaching and scholarship activity within Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Leeds. The Sport and Exercise Sciences research group were ranked 1st for 'World Leading' 4* research in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the University obtained Gold in the recent Teaching Excellence Framework awards. The Sport and Exercise Sciences Undergraduate programmes at Leeds are ranked in first place in the Guardian University Course league tables for this subject area. This is therefore a chance to join a sector-leading group within the UK.Embedded within Sports and Exercise Sciences you will work as part of a vibrant, dynamic team complementing and enhancing our teaching and scholarship activities. We employ a broad range of innovative teaching practices ranging from digital education initiatives to use of research-lead innovations in approaches and practices. We also engage in numerous highly-successful outreach activities to engage the public and school groups ranging from school science festivals to large public open events. As such this is a great opportunity to develop skills and experience in a range of teaching and scholastic activities.Current research activities within the group investigate human and animal movement as well as sport performance. This includes work aimed at understanding how muscles are used during locomotion, including links between musculoskeletal design, locomotor performance and energetics, as well as rehabilitation following spinal cord injury. We also study human mechanics in sport and injury including the impact of prosthesis design and footwear on the kinematics and kinetics of walking and running as well as the biomechanics of performance rowing. To complement our existing portfolio we welcome applications from candidates who have a background related to these areas, but equally welcome applications from across all areas of sport and exercise biomechanics, which could include health, clinical and sport performance related research. The key requirement is the ability to teach and assess biomechanics along with other supporting areas (e.g mathematics, research design etc) at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. The primary criteria for appointment will be academic excellence and potential to further enhance the teaching and scholarship activity within Sport and Exercise Sciences at the University of Leeds.
