Duties and responsibilities:
  • Establish Faculty Student Governance Structures in line with the ISRC Constitution and the Institutional Statute.
  • Provide capacity for all student governance elective and transitional processes.
  • Facilitate actively the engagement of faculty Student Governance Structures in student governance activities, such as Student Councils, Public Life of the UFS etc.
  • Facilitate actively the active participation of faculty Student Governance Structures in Senate and faculty boards.
  • Facilitate actively the active participation of Student Governance Structures in ITP, Dialogues, Seminars and Critical Political, Religious and Arts & Cultural Conversations.
  • Liaise and collaborate with faculty management in ensuring the active participation of faculty student representative structures within faculty governance structures.
  • Facilitate the establishment and functioning of faculty assemblies in collaboration with faculty management.
  • Empower and provide logistical support to faculty Student Governance Structures for Event and Project Management.
  • Design and implement Student Governance Induction Programmes for faculty Student Governance Structures.
  • Familiarise faculty student governance structures with the Higher Education Act, the Institutional Statute, the ISRC Constitution, the Institutional Rules, the General Rules and other relevant and provisions of the University of the Free State.
  • Empower faculty student representatives on alternative dispute resolution mechanism.
  • Assist in the provision of administrative support of the faculty student governance structures.
  • Develop and implement a record keeping and filling system for faculty Student Governance Structures.
  • Process requisitions for student Governance Structures.
  • Facilitate attendance and active participation by faculty Student Governance Structures of Institutional meeting.
  • Promote principles of good corporate cooperate governance amongst student associations and organisations.
  • Compile quarterly, midterm and annual reports of the activities of faculty Student Governance Structures.


Inherent requirements:
  • Bachelor Degree/National Diploma in any area of specialisation.
  • One (1) to two (2) years' relevant working experience related to the duties and responsibilities as set out above.
  • One (1) to two (2) years' experience in organised student life/governance.


Required competencies:
  • Experience in - and knowledge of student governance.
  • Experience in organised student life/governance.
  • Ability to think strategically and to engage strategic frameworks.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience.
  • Background in higher education and student governance structures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of procurement policies.
  • Knowledge of the strategic objectives of the institution.
  • Knowledge of financial policies and procedures.
  • Competency in Microsoft Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and internet).
  • Ability to work individually and in a team.
  • Willingness to work after hours.


Recommendations:
  • Knowledge of UFS finance and procurement procedures.
  • Knowledge of UFS systems such as PeopleSoft and Outlook.
  • A valid driver's license.
