ACADEMIC POSITION – DIVISION OF GASTROENTEROLOGY

TRANSPLANT HEPATOLOGIST, MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF LIVER TRANSPLANTATION

The Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, at Western University, St. Joseph’s Health Care London, and the London Health Sciences Centre are seeking a physician for a full-time clinical academic appointment to Western University. Applicants should be certified, or eligible for certification, by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Candidates must have an MD, or equivalent, and must be eligible for licensure in the province of Ontario. The successful candidate will hold a continuing academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications and experience.

The successful candidate will participate in the Liver Transplant program at University Hospital. This program is the oldest liver transplant program in Canada and performs approximately 65 adult liver transplants per year. The successful candidate will primarily participate in the inpatient and outpatient hepatology and liver transplant services.

The successful candidate for this position will have a record of proven ability for teaching and will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to supervise graduate trainees. The successful candidate will also have a record of proven ability for leadership and research productivity. The expected role includes the position of Medical Director of Liver Transplantation. This will involve leading our hepatology group locally and representating the program at a provincial and national level. The successful candidate will have significant experience providing excellent clinical care in the areas of liver transplantation, hepatology and gastroenterology. Advanced training in liver transplantation and hepatology is a requirement. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the research commitment of the Division and Department.

Considerations of applicants will include an assessment of previous performance in research, leadership and teaching, qualifications and experience. Candidates that have demonstrated ability in the identified areas of opportunity will be given priority.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and will be primarily composed of academic salary, fee for service and alternative payment plan.
