Job Details

The University of Adelaide is one of Australia's leading Group of Eight, research-intensive universities and is consistently ranked among the top 1% of universities in the world. Established in 1874, it is Australia's third oldest university with a strong reputation for preparing educated leaders and delivering research outcomes that contribute to local, national and global wellbeing.

A unique opportunity exists for a distinguished scholar to join the University as the Kidman Chair of Australian Studies in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Adelaide. This prestigious appointment is named in honour of Australian pastoralist, the late Sir Sidney Kidman.

The Kidman Chair of Australian Studies has been established to make a significant contribution to the study of Australian culture and society through teaching and research, and to offer excellent supervision to higher degree students.

The Faculty of Arts is a place of innovative practice and thought leadership across a diverse range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and creative and performing arts that contribute to sustainability, innovative public policy and community growth and engagement. It currently serves the needs of over 4000 enrolled students, with many graduates going on to become leading politicians, policy makers, historians, curators, musicians and writers. The University of Adelaide proudly counts among our distinguished alumni five Nobel Laureates, over 120 Fulbright Scholars and more than 100 Rhodes Scholars. Australia's first female prime minister and Supreme Court judge were also University of Adelaide graduates.

The University seeks applications from outstanding discipline experts who have made an impact in Australian Literature, Creative Writing, Media, History, Demography and Migration Studies, Politics and Sociology, Education, Music, Legal Studies, Indigenous Studies, or Agri-cultures.

As an agile and personable academic leader, you have demonstrated that you are driven by inspiring students to become leaders in their field, by a robust vision, research excellence and by making a real difference, for example by promoting discussion and debate on issues that are pertinent to the continuing health of Australian culture and society.

This 4-year fixed-term contract is available to commence 29 July 2019. Subject to satisfactory performance and teaching needs in the candidate's field, a continuing appointment may be negotiated to commence at the end of the four-year term.

To have a confidential discussion about this appointment, please contact Professor Jennie Shaw, Executive Dean, Faculty of Arts, by Telephone: 08 8313 4163 or Email deanarts@adelaide.edu.au

Closing date: 9 June 2019

The University of Adelaide is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who meet the requirements of this position are strongly encouraged to apply.
