Job Details

The newly forming Symbiosis Evolution research group ( http://www.symbioses.pl ) at the Institute of Environmental Sciences of Jagiellonian University ( http://www.eko.uj.edu.pl ) is looking to hire a Postdoctoral Researcher. This is a full-time, up to 48-month position funded by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) project Insect Microbiomics, available from 1 July 2019.

The Postdoc will join an active, collaborative team aiming to describe the broad patterns of the microbial diversity across insects, and the dynamics of the insect microbiomes across space and time. That will be done using high-throughput next-generation sequencing (NGS), in close collaboration with a massive insect biodiversity project, Insect Biome Atlas ( https://insectbiomeatlas.com ) that would provide large numbers of specimens.

The Postdoc will initially focus on the development of protocols for high-throughput, automated next-generation sequencing library preparation in the context of microbiome studies, as well as bioinformatic pipelines for the analysis of the resulting data. Later, they will lead the microbiome characterization in large collections of insects from Sweden, Madagascar and/or Greenland.
