Introduction

The Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKU-EB) is a Pakistan based examination and education system that was established in 2003 by Aga Khan University, in accordance with Ordinance CXIV of the Government of Pakistan to offer examination services for both Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC).

It is a Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education that offers qualifications in both English and Urdu. AKU-EB's primary purpose is to improve the quality of education. It achieves this by making examinations of reputable standard more accessible to Pakistani students so that AKU-EB qualifications are increasingly valued by leading higher education institutions within and outside the country.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Teacher Development, the appointee should be an experienced teacher who will be responsible for developing high quality training, teaching material, and projects at Middle School Level based on identified needs (subject specific - MS, SSC and HSSC level), and conducting high quality training sessions as part of the teacher development team.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • working with academic specialists and other trainers to develop high quality training material for various training activities for school teachers (middle school, SSC and HSSC) based on needs of schools
  • developing material for teachers to use in their teaching and instructing them on how to use this material effectively
  • engaging teachers in the development of effective material for their classrooms
  • conducting teacher training sessions throughout the year in Karachi, Islamabad, and other AKU-EB school locations
  • compiling and managing a repository of created material
  • driving innovation in teaching and teacher development practices
  • working collaboratively on broader AKU-EB research projects with other academic departments in EB
  • sharing, publishing and presenting findings in local, national and international arenas
  • encouraging the participation of teachers in research
  • assisting in planning and conducting workshops for academic specialists, all of whom will give disciplinary specific workshops for teachers.


Requirements

You must have:
  • a Master's degree with excellent academic qualifications
  • at least 2 years teaching experience in SSC/ HSSC (or O/A Levels)
  • strong communication skills in English and Urdu (both oral and written)
  • strong conceptual and analytical skills
  • the ability to work well in teams and stay highly motivated and self-directed
  • eagerness to learn new approaches, methods and practices
  • the ability to understand and contribute to AKU-EB's vision
  • the ability to represent the AKU-EB to schools, students, parents
  • willingness to travel domestically for work related assignments.
