Academic Dean - International Partnership with Sunway University

Lancaster University is one of the UK's top universities. We are ranked in the top 10 across all three major UK league tables and were named 2018 University of the Year by The Times and Sunday Times.

In 2006, Lancaster University established a strategic partnership with Sunway University in Subang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We are now seeking to appoint an Academic Dean who will play a substantial role in maintaining the high profile and reputation of the partnership in Malaysia and the broader South East Asia region.

As Academic Dean, you will be the senior representative for Lancaster University at Sunway University. You will be expected to build on the successful partnership and advance activities along with three major themes: teaching, research and engagement.

You will play a lead role in ensuring the quality of teaching, enhancing standards, promoting existing programmes and developing new opportunities across the academic portfolio of Lancaster/Sunway Dual Degree undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Current enrolments on these programmes exceed four thousand students.

We wish to appoint an Academic Dean on a Lancaster contract, who will live and work in Malaysia. There will be a requirement for travel, both within Malaysia and overseas - such as to Lancaster - to strengthen the working relationship between partners and to attend student recruitment fairs.

The Academic Dean will promote the strategic development of Lancaster University in consultation with the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Engagement, Professor Dame Sue Black. The initial period for the secondment is 3-5 years with the possibility of extension. During this time, you will have an underlying contract with a relevant Lancaster University Department and will move into this role when the secondment ceases.

Subject specialism is not critical but a teaching and/or research record in a western university would be beneficial. It is essential that you have experience as an academic manager, can work effectively as part of a team, and have strong negotiation skills.
