VETERINARIAN (ONE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

The Faculty of Veterinary Science invites applications from persons complying with the relevant requirements for the position of Veterinarian, who will mainly be involved in the managing of and training of students in the small animal sterilisation clinic.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Managing the sterilisation clinic;
  • Student preparation and training in the skills laboratory;
  • Supervising anaesthetic induction and maintenance and managing complications;
  • Supervising surgical procedures and managing all complications;
  • Providing guidance to students during surgery;
  • Assisting with developing training material related to the above;
  • Assisting with marketing the service to general public;
  • Rendering first opinion clinical service when sterilisation clinic is not booked.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A BVSc- /BVMCh-degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualification;
  • Registration with the SAVC as a Veterinarian;
  • Five years' experience in general small animal private practice, including experience in small animal abdominal surgery.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Appropriate language and communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Good computer skills (Windows, MS Office, internet).


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • Eight years' experience in general small animal private practice.
