School of Mathematics and Physics

The School of Mathematics and Physics hosts several research centres and is an active partner in a number of multidisciplinary research groups both within and external to the University. Our staff are recognised internationally for their active and dynamic research programs across a wide range of areas in mathematics.

This position is located at our picturesque St Lucia campus , renowned as one of Australia's most attractive university campuses, and located just 7km from Brisbane's city centre. For US applicants, please note that Australian Universities use British terminology, as such a Lecturer (Level B) position is equivalent to that of an Assistant Professor position in the US.

Our Ideal Candidate

Applicants should have a strong publication record relative to opportunity, as well as potential to attract research grants. They will be an enthusiastic teacher, with the ability to teach courses in mathematical analysis as well as non-specialist courses to students in other disciplines. Applicants should address how their research complements and supplements our current research strengths.

The successful appointee will be expected to:
  • teach undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics courses;
  • engage in curriculum development;
  • supervise postgraduate and honours students;
  • conduct high-quality research;
  • perform administrative, outreach and other activities associated with the School.

What We Can Offer

This is a full-time, fixed term position for three years at Academic Level B.

The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $95,771 - $113,728, plus super of up to 17%.

Our Selection Process

Please note that Panel Interviews have been scheduled for the week commencing 1 July 2019 at The University of Queensland's St Lucia campus.

As part of the Selection Process, applicants shortlisted for interview will be required to present a seminar and mock lecture to members of the school community prior to their scheduled interview. Research seminars and lecture topics will be provided with adequate notice to shortlisted candidates.

The University of Queensland is committed to ensuring all candidates are provided with the opportunity to attend the panel interviews, however, for those candidates who are unable to attend in person, video interview options will be available.
