HEAD OF PROGRAMME (TUKSRUGBY)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for the strategic management of the programmatic and operational aspects of a TuksSport Focus Club. This will include:
  • The overall management of the club/programme with regard to corporate governance, financial management, business management, and other operational and administrative responsibilities such as human resources, marketing, and project management;
  • The overall management of participation in leagues, varsity cup/sport and University Sport South Africa (USSA) programmes, and stakeholder relations management;
  • Facilitating and ensuring that the club/programme's high performance programme is always positioned to guarantee optimal support to elite athletes and their coaches.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A three-year diploma in Sport Management, Human Movement Science or related field with seven years' experience; OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Sport Management, Human Movement Science or related field with five years' experience;
  • Drivers licence.


REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
  • Advanced knowledge of the following:
    • Strategic and operational planning;
    • Operational management;
    • Financial administration and management;
    • Conflict resolution;
    • Negotiation handling;
    • Monitoring and evaluation;
    • Human resource development and management;
    • Marketing and communication;
    • Stakeholder relations management;
  • Computer literacy including the use of MS Office, PeopleSoft, G-mail Suite, etc;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Adaptability and decisiveness;
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Initiative and perseverance;
  • Emotional intelligence.


ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
  • An Honours Degree in Sport Management, Human Movement Science or related field;
  • A certificate in Financial Management, Strategic Management, Marketing and Communication, Human Resource Management or Project Management;
  • For candidates with a diploma qualification:
    • Seven years' experience in sport programme or coaching a first team of the specific sport in a tertiary institution, national or provincial sport federation or similar and comparable organisation in the public and/or private sector;
    • Seven years' experience in the organisational management of tournaments, leagues and events;
    • Five years' experience in the management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and in administrative management e.g. programme scheduling, logistical arrangement;
    • Two years' experience in compiling proposals and business plans for e.g. fundraising purposes; developing comprehensive publicity, marketing, and promotional strategies; project management; financial administration; and in human resources management.
  • For candidates with a degree qualification:
    • Five years' experience in sport programme management of the specific sport in a tertiary institution, national or provincial sport federation or similar and comparable organisation in the public and/or private sector;
    • Five years' experience in the organisational management of tournaments, leagues and events;
    • Three years' experience in the management of relationships with internal and external stakeholders; and in administrative management e.g. programme scheduling, logistical arrangement;
    • One year's experience in compiling proposals and business plans for e.g. fundraising purposes; developing comprehensive publicity, marketing, and promotional strategies; project management; financial administration; and in human resources management.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
