FOOD PREPARER (FIVE, ONE-YEAR CONTRACT POSITIONS)

JOB PURPOSE:

The Food Preparer in Food Service Unit is responsible for the preparation of foods according to prescribed recipes, guidelines and to provide assistance with regard to stock handling and serving.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Preparing items in time and according to production schedule and recipe instructions;
• Portioning and garnishing dishes according to guidelines;
• Heating up dishes according to correct procedures;
• Ensuring that the correct equipment and utensils are used according to procedures;
• Ensuring that apparatus works correctly and are kept in a good condition;
• Ensuring that safety and hygiene regulations are constantly abided by
• Attending to stock according to guidelines
• Cleaning equipment, utensils and work areas according to the Hygiene Manual, Cleaning Aids, Equipment User and Safety Manuals regulations;
• Reporting faulty equipment according to prescribed guidelines;
• Cleaning work areas according to the cleaning programme of the Unit;
• Assisting with general tidying up and cleaning;
• Ensuring that uniform and personal care comply with hygiene regulations;
• Assisting with any other critical tasks as assigned by Food Service Supervisor or relevant Food Service Manager.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12;
• One year relevant food preparing experience.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

• Knowledge of food preparation, food products and related ingredients;
• Knowledge of cleaning equipment and products;
• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Computer literacy and numerical skills;
• Ability to operate food preparation equipment;
• Ability to work independently;
• Interpersonal skills: conflict management and group work;
• Organisational skills;
• Responsible, reliable and punctual.

ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

• Basic certificate in Food Preparation/Cookery.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
