Job Details

Do you have an interest in In vitro diagnostics research, or in the use of new technologies?

Do you have experience of operations and programme management in a biomedical research and/or clinical environment?

Are you highly motivated and possess excellent communication and organisational skills?

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic Centre Manager to provide overall day-to-day management and coordination of the new NIHR Leeds In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative (NIHR Leeds MIC) https://www.leedsmic.nihr.ac.uk/ . This post will be principally based at the Research & Innovation Centre, St James's University Hospital.Biomarkers and diagnostic tests have major potential benefits for patients and the NHS, particularly in contributing to "personalised and/or stratified medicine and improved safety. Protein biomarkers in body fluids are now being regularly identified using new techniques and are associated with the presence and activity of diseases and treatment benefits/toxicities. However, their potential benefit to the NHS is not being realised due to the absence of a defined pathway linking biomarker research to health services research. We have been awarded a £1.3 million National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) grant to establish one of the 11 new MedTech & In Vitro Diagnostic Co-operatives (MICs) to build expertise and capacity in the NHS to provide evidence on commercially supplied in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) tests. We work with patients, NHS commissioners, commercial and non-commercial partners to evaluate IVDs for their clinical validity, utility, cost-effectiveness and ability to change practice and improve patient outcomes. This follows on from the successful NIHR Diagnostic Evidence Co-operatives that were established in 2013, which completed in 2017. The NIHR Leeds MIC focuses on the development of IVDs within the clinical themes of Oncology, Musculoskeletal, Renal Medicine and Infection. The clinical themes are supported by a cross cutting methodological platform that includes health economics, health informatics, clinical trials and multidisciplinary pathology. This is a part time post (FTE 80%) created to provide day-to-day operational and programme management of the NIHR Leeds In Vitro Diagnostics Co-operative (NIHR Leeds MIC). You will work as part of a team, but with a high degree of autonomy to ensure the timely delivery of the MIC's objectives and programmes and report frequently to the senior management group and particularly with the Director of Operations.
