School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering
The School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering has a strong, internationally recognised research base. The staff and students within the School are widely published and attract highly competitive grant funding and industry sponsorship.
The role
Dr. Mashhuda Glencross is currently recruiting a PhD student to investigate and classify camera motion styles used by directors in movies.
The research project will involve combining Computer Vision and Machine Learning approaches to understand the camera motions and paths typically used for certain cinematic techniques (eg. Tilt, Panning, Zooming, Crane Shots etc.). The project will also include the potential to collaborate with world leading researchers at NTNU (Norway) and Bath University (UK).
The person
To be successful, applicants will need to meet the following selection criteria:
Demonstration of research ability through publication output in peer reviewed international journals is desirable. To be eligible to apply you must also meet the entry requirements for Higher Degrees by Research at UQ, please visit the Graduate School's website .

A domestic part-time student with carer's responsibilities, a medical condition or a disability, which prevents them from studying full time may be eligible for scholarship consideration, on a case by case basis. Remuneration
$27,596 per annum tax-free (2019 rate), indexed annually, for three years with the possibility of two 6-month extensions in approved circumstances.

The person

- First-Class Honours, or Masters degree
- Computer science background
- Strong Maths skills
- Strong Programming skills (MATLAB, C, C++, Python etc) are essential
- Computer Graphics/Computer Vision knowledge
- Machine Learning knowledge is a plus
