Job Details

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic surgical trainee to join a dynamic and multi-disciplinary research team within the Bristol Centre for Surgical Research. This new role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to innovative mixed-methods research with huge potential to change the design of randomized controlled trials and early phase studies in surgery. Training in surgery (including at least 2 years of in-theatre experience), an interest in qualitative methodology and in the evaluation of complex healthcare interventions relevant to invasive procedures and surgery are required. The appointed researcher (with support from Jane Blazeby, Professor of Surgery, and Natalie Blencowe, MRC Clinician Scientist) will work with experienced methodologists and research clinicians, and with a medical research photographer, to explore and develop methods for the quality assurance of surgical procedures within clinical research. This will examine how innovative procedures evolve and can be best adopted into clinical practice. Once established, these methods will be transferrable to other settings such as medical educational research and surgical training. Funding is available for up to 24 months.

For informal queries, please contact: Natalie Blencowe, +44 (0) 117 331 3933, natalie.blencowe@bristol.ac.uk

We appreciate and value difference, seeking to attract, develop and retain a diverse mix of talented people that will contribute to the overall success of Bristol and help maintain our position as one of the world's leading universities.
