The IT Services department is seeking to recruit a Senior Systems Administrator to work to work within the Platforms group, which has responsibility for the design, development, support and maintenance of the University's mission critical IT infrastructure. This role, within a team of technical IT staff, will work on all aspects of Microsoft administration including input into strategy, design and implementation of the University's systems.

You should be highly motivated and enthusiastic about working in a fast paced and constantly changing environment. You will have the ability to adapt to rapid changes in the standard infrastructure that supports and delivers core services. You will need to show a high level of ability to develop your skills with the minimum of external input and be able to work in a highly autonomous fashion.

It is critical that you understand the concepts and problems of enterprise level IT infrastructure and services, large scale platforms and remote administration (eg lights out management), working with many levels of complexity. Ideally you should possess an ability to innovate solutions for the benefit of the organisation as a whole.

You will have experience and knowledge of administrating Microsoft Windows Server on an enterprise scale, including: DFS filestore administration, Windows clustering, configuration management, security best practices, patch management, and PowerShell automation. You should have experience of scalable and resilient systems having managed multiple servers in a complex and fluid environment.

You will also possess knowledge and experience in most of the following areas; Hyper-V VM Management, System Centre Virtual Machine Manager, Failover Cluster Manager, and an understanding of iSCSI best practices.

You would be expected to work with the Senior System Engineer on the design, implementation and management of the University's virtual estate spanning multiple data centres. As such you should have extensive knowledge and experience of running these solutions in this type of environment, including liaising with both software and hardware vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.

Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential to the role. You will be at ease communicating in person, by phone and email, with the ability to communicate at all levels. You must be committed to delivering an excellent level of customer service for staff and students, while also meeting the organisations strategic goals and financial objectives.

Suitable applicants must have a degree relevant to IT Services or vocational experience which demonstrates equivalent professional development. ITILv3 Foundation Diploma is desirable.
