Introduction

French Medical Institute for Mothers and Children (FMIC) was founded in 2006 is a unique public-private partnership between the Governments of Afghanistan and France, a French NGO - La Chaine de L'Espoir and the Aga Khan Development Network through the Aga Khan University Hospital. FMIC embodies a sign of hope for the medical care of children in Kabul. The Institute has risen to the challenge of charting a course towards sustainable health solutions for Afghanistan. It is the first ISO certified hospital in Afghanistan, aiming to provide compassionate, accessible, cost-effective, high quality care services to the population of Afghanistan.

Responsibilities

You will responsible to:
  • Responsible for day to day operation of cytogenetic as a bench in charge
  • Responsible for proficiency testing surveys results of Cytogenetic of College of American Pathologists (CAP)
  • Ensure timely reporting and inventory management of cytogenetic sub section.
  • Assist pathologists in teaching of students and trainees as per laboratory protocols as and when assigned
  • Responsible for specimen preparation, culturing, harvesting, Chromosomal Banding and Staining Techniques (GTG Banding) for Chromosomal Analysis as well as FISH processing
  • Screening, diagnosis and karyotyping of cytogenetic reports on a wide variety of human tissues such as Peripheral Blood, Bone Marrow & Amniotic Fluid
  • Reporting individually for conventional karyotyping reports
  • Co-sign reports of junior technologist
  • Organize and coordinate administrative and technical activities of the section according to procedures and policies for smooth running of the section
  • Ensure quality results by running internal quality control and participation in external proficiency testing program
  • Perform complex Cytogenetic tests such as specimen processing, cell culturing, cell harvesting, screening and karyotyping
  • Read, analyze, and interpret test results and take remedial action when indicated
  • Conduct validation studies for new tests or new equipment introduction and obtain approval from Laboratory Quality Committee
  • Communicate effectively critical results in timely manner and ensure proper documentation as per protocols.
  • Monitor the supplies against the test volume to avoid the shortage of inventories and expiry
  • Omplement safety regulations within the assigned section according to the safety manual
  • Assist in formulating and implementing short and long term goals for lab operations
  • Ensure compliance of ISO, JCIA and CAP standards in the section
  • Handle incident and complaints of patients / physicians within stipulated timelines
  • Ensure preventive maintenance of equipment & coordinate with FMD/Vendors to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Enhance lab staff knowledge on advancement in laboratory medicine and safety protocols.


Requirements

You should have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Masters' will be preferred
  • 3 to 4 years of experience as a technologist in cytogenetic laboratory
  • Good knowledge of quality control, environmental safety, latest developments of medical technology and laboratory tests
  • Excellent interpersonal, supervisory and problem solving skills.
