The opportunity
Applications are invited for the position of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mechatronics and Smart Materials in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The successful applicant will be required to supervise researchers and to teach in areas compatible with the interests and activities of the Department and to undertake high quality research in any of the following areas: smart materials, structures for microsystems and accompanying technologies.
About the organisation
The University of Auckland is New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led University. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Engineering, with approximately 30 academic staff, 600 undergraduates and 140 postgraduate students. We provide BE (Hons) degree programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, together with a range of postgraduate research and taught programmes.
We offer a diverse and active community for research at and above postgraduate level, and we are proud of our strong international reputation for the quality of our research outputs. Our research activities broadly concern thermofluids, smart manufacturing, mechatronics, acoustics, dynamics, control, industrial automation, micro-systems and smart materials, mechanics of materials, composites, medical devices, robotics and neural engineering. About the position
You will work as part of the Mechatronics group and will be required to develop research collaborations with researchers both within and outside the group and to attract research funding, nationally and/or internationally. You will contribute to our taught programmes in areas relevant to your specialisation. You will be committed to the development and delivery of curricula and courses and have excellent communication skills. You will also contribute to the wider activities of the relevant research and teaching groups and perform service roles for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Skills and experience
You will have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant area, together with post-doctoral research, teaching and/or industrial experience. You will also have a demonstrated ability to conduct research, have supervised, or intend to supervise, postgraduate students, and a strong track record of published research.
