Senior Lecturer: Higher and Adult Education

The Centre for Higher and Adult Education, located in the Department of Curriculum Studies, focuses on postgraduate studies and research in Higher and Adult Education. We offer two structured Master's programmes, one in Higher Education and a second in Lifelong Learning.

We also have a large contingent of Master's and doctoral students. We are responsive to the need for research orientated scholarship through cutting edge and responsive research and publication, training of research students at postgraduate level, and contributing to the professional development of lecturers and adult educators via our various programmes and short course offerings.

Duties
  • Teaching at postgraduate level;
  • Conducting, supervising and publishing research;
  • Developing and engaging in professional development workshops and short courses;
  • Academic administration.


Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in Higher or Adult Education;
  • A minimum of two years' lecturing experience in a university context;
  • A critical understanding of higher and/or adult education in South Africa and internationally;
  • A record of successful supervision at postgraduate level;
  • A record of relevant research and publications;
  • Experience in developing and presenting professional development workshops and/or short courses;
  • The ability to teach in English in a multilingual environment.


Desirable
  • A research and publication record commensurate with the post level being applied for;
  • Experience of postgraduate programme planning and curriculum development;
  • A record of research and development work with educational institutions such as universities and other educational institutions;
  • Experience of university community engagement/outreach.
