Job Details
The position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and the successful candidate will be subject to the terms and conditions of the programme whilst being a permanent staff member of the University of the Free State.

Duties and responsibilities:
- Teach analytical chemistry at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Conduct research in Analytical Chemistry, Hydrometallurgy and method validation.
- Participation in research that will be nationally and internationally recognized (Research focused in Analytical and Hydrometallurgy - mineral beneficiation in South Africa).
- Participate in industrial projects, where necessary/applicable.
- Write research articles based on research results.
- Provide study guidance to postgraduate students.
- Obtain research funding.
- Perform administrative tasks and other departmental and faculty activities.
Inherent requirements:
- Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry or Hydrometallurgy.
- Proven experience in the delivery of poster or oral presentations at conferences or equivalent activities.
- Provide evidence of manuscripts produced that have the potential to be converted or submitted for publication in accredited journals.
- A good academic record.
Required competencies:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to function with ease in the University's richly diverse working environment.
- Ability to enforce discipline and handle large groups of students.
- Excellent knowledge of organic chemistry.
- Experience in and ability to handle expensive items of research equipment, like ICP, AA microwave digestion micro-analyses, SEM/EDX UV/vis and IR instruments.

Recommendations:
- PhD in Analytical Chemistry or Hydrometallurgy or the willingness to enrol for a doctoral degree in Analytical Chemistry if a PhD has not yet been completed by the time of the appointment.
- Valid driver's license.
- Expertise in detail analytical chemistry.
- Evaluate date and method validation elucidation.
- Exposure to research at international facilities.
- Industrial/ academic collaboration.
- One year postdoctoral training in Analytical Chemistry/Hydrometallurgy at an institution abroad (Lecturer).
- Proven international research outputs and links.
- Teaching experience at tertiary institution level.
- Good communication and social skills.
