The Senior Assistant Director is primarily responsible for:

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

- Managing and leading all aspects of financial aid;
- Strategic and operational management;
- Budget planning and project management;
- Ensuring that the University adheres to government and institutional regulations and policies;
- Developing financial aid content for students in compliance with applicable regulations;
- Ensuring that financial aid packaging is strategic and supports the University's overall student enrolment and recruitment goals;
- Co-ordinating support services to students;
- Personnel management of reporting staff in the Division.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- BCom Hons degree in Financial Management or Accounting;
- Five years' working experience at a senior management level within a medium to large organisation (third year of SAICA articles will be considered as one year senior working experience);
- Proven experience in/and knowledge of:
- Strategic management;
- Budget planning and control functions;
- Project management;
- Experience in designing and implementing business plans/proposals.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):
- Knowledge of the following:
- National Credit Act;
- Access to Information Act;
- Consumer Protection Act;
- Higher Education Processes;
- Financial Aid function and the management thereof;
- Planning, implementation and monitoring of budgets in an educational environment;
- Technically competent in:
- MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
- An ERP system such as PeopleSoft;
- Knowledge of the principles and processes for delivering class-leading customer service;
- Excellent supervisory, administrative, interpersonal and leadership skills;
- Participated management skills;
- The ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, employees and the public;
- Organisational skills in handling and directing multiple and complex assignments and projects;
- Ability to streamline operations;
- The ability to work effectively in a team environment;
- The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
- A high level of energy and good sense of humour with the capacity for extraordinary time and effort demands.
ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:
- Accreditation from the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants;
- Five years' knowledge of and experience in financial aid management in a university environment;
- Three years' knowledge of and experience in an ERP system, preferably PeopleSoft.
