Job Details

The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a fixed-term part-time Lecturer (Senior Teaching Associate) in French from 1 September 2019 to 28 June 2020.

The Department of French is an integral part of a dynamic and forward-looking School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts. The Department is at the forefront of those in the UK able to offer a range of modules from the medieval to the postmodern, encompassing Francophone cultural studies, film, history, literature, sociolinguistics and thought. French is studied by highly qualified and strongly motivated undergraduates either as a mandatory part of a Single Honours degree, a Joint Honours degree with another one or two modern languages, or a Joint Honours degree with another subject.

An ability to offer research-led teaching and contribute to the existing range of units offered by the French Department is essential, and a specialism in French literary modernism and visual culture in the later-nineteenth and twentieth centuries will be a particular asset. The ability to teach French language at a range of undergraduate levels is also required. The successful candidate will support the Department and School in the development of innovative teaching methods and materials and the dissemination of good teaching practice, and will make an appropriate administrative contribution to the life of the School (as an academic tutor, for example).

The successful candidate will have native or near-native competence in French and English, and is likely to have, or be about to obtain, a relevant postgraduate qualification (PhD), as well as possessing some experience of teaching in the HE sector.

Interviews are likely to be held in the week commencing 1st July 2019.

Applications must be made using the University of Bristol's on-line application system. The closing date is 24th June 2019. Informal enquiries should be directed to Head of Subject, Professor Gino Raymond at Gino.Raymond@bristol.ac.uk

Please note that wef 1/8/19, Pathway 3 job titles are changing. Senior Associate Teacher will become Lecturer.
