Job Details

We are keen to appoint a highly motivated individual with a strong track record of teaching in Sociology or Politics and International Relations (SPAIS), whose expertise will complement and enhance the strengths within the School of Sociology, Politics and International Relations (SPAIS). The successful applicant will teach on the Social Sciences pathway of the innovative and interdisciplinary Foundation in Arts and Social Sciences (CertHE) programme and contribute to the management and development of that programme. They will also act as Widening Participation Coordinator for the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law and undertake teaching in SPAIS.

The Foundation in Arts and Social Sciences (Cert HE) is a one-year programme designed to prepare students for study in higher education and leading to a place on a degree in either the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Social Sciences. The course has no formal entrance criteria and prioritises applications from candidates from groups currently underrepresented in higher education. It is interdisciplinary in nature, providing students with the skills they need to succeed, introducing them to the range of subjects on offer in either Faculty, and supporting them as they specialise and choose a degree subject to progress to.

We are seeking to make a full-time appointment, who will contribute fully to the life of the School and Faculty through teaching and performing teaching-related administrative duties. The successful applicant will have strong experience as a teacher in a higher education setting, be committed to widening participation in university study, and have knowledge of administration of teaching in higher education, with experience or potential to work with mature learners without conventional prior qualifications.

The closing date for applications is 30 June 2019. It is anticipated that interviews will be held towards the end of July. For an informal discussion of the Foundation Programme please contact Dr John McTague, john.mctague@bristol.ac.uk . For an informal discussion on the WP Co-ordinator role in Social Sciences and Law, please contact Dr Rachel Lart, R.Lart@bristol.ac.uk
