The School of Geographical Sciences invites applications for four Lectureships in Geography (equivalent to Assistant Professors, salary range £37345 - £48677) from outstanding scholars who will advance our interdisciplinary research strategy and augment the School's excellence in research-led teaching. These new positions reflect our bold strategic ambition to expand our postgraduate cohort and build international research dynamism in fields that bolster global collaborations centring on contemporary global environmental and societal challenges while consolidating our strong intellectual traditions.

The successful applicants will join a vibrant community of scholarship and critical engagement, working in one of the world's premier Geography departments. We are a collegial school, priding ourselves on fostering critical, intellectual curiosity in a collaborative and supportive environment. Bristol also offers ample inter-disciplinary opportunities within the Cabot Institute for the Environment, the Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health Research, the Jean Golding Institute for data-intensive research, and the Brigstow Institute, which focusses on new ways of living and being.

The school is eager to appoint talented candidates with proven research and teaching excellence around the following broad areas:
  1. environmental policy, economics and management;
  2. spatial and geographical elements of environmental history, politics and culture;
  3. contemporary and future climate impacts on physical and biogeochemical Earth systems and associated adaptation strategies;
  4. Global societal challenges such as urbanisation, pollution, health, food security and migration; and
  5. geographical data science, spatial modelling and geovisualisation.
