The Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR) is the flagship unit for applied social science research at UQ and one of the largest social science research institutes in Australia. ISSR's mission is to advance solution-oriented social research, and Institute researchers address some of the most important issues and challenges facing Australia and the world today in areas such as family dynamics, education, social wellbeing, data science, and health. About This Opportunity

The primary purpose of the position will include the management and analysis of linked administrative data sets and survey data, and under supervision, day-to-day management of a research partnership between ISSR and industry partners.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide advice to partner organisations on how to organise and manage their administrative and other data holdings;
  • Conduct advanced quantitative research;
  • Assist in preparation of research proposals, tenders and contract grant applications;
  • Prepare and present reports and papers on research outcomes to stakeholders;
  • Develop and manager relationships with government, community and industry research partners;
  • Perform a range of administrative functions in ISSR, as required.

This position is located at our Long Pocket Campus.

Our Ideal Candidate

With a PhD in a relevant field of social sciences or a cognate discipline with a component of advanced quantitative data analysis and data management, you will also have the following;
  • An understanding of Australian social policy and social welfare systems;
  • High level computer programming skills, with experience using statistical software such as, Stata, SAS or R;
  • Research leadership and management skills or demonstrated ability to develop these skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with research colleagues; and
  • Developed industry liaisons and industry contracts is highly desirable.

You must be an Australian Citizen to apply for this opportunity, and be eligible for baseline security clearance.

This is a full-time, fixed term position at Academic level B.

The full-time base salary will be in the range $95,771 - $113,728, plus super of up to 17%.
