Job Details
The successful applicant will work as part of a U.K. Japan team seeking to quantify the human influence on the rapid ocean melting of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet, both in the past century and over future decades. The project team includes ocean and ice modellers and ocean observation specialists at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), the Japan Agency for Marine - Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), Hokkaido University and NOCS. The NOCS team will work closely with all partners, and will participate in regular project meetings in the U.K. and Japan.
Applicants will have a PhD in physical oceanography (or a related field) with experience in the interpretation of oceanographic observations and / or model output. They will have good knowledge of ocean dynamics and strong quantitative and communication skills, and the ability to conduct innovative research leading to high-impact publications in international refereed journals.
The post is fixed term (2 years).
Applications will be considered from candidates who are nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
