Job Details

Stomata are microscopic pores on the surface of plants that mediate water and CO2 exchange with the environment, and were a key adaptation in the colonisation of land by plants. We seek a Research Associate in evolutionary bioinformatics to investigate the origin and evolution of stomatal development and function, in the broader context of plant phylogeny and evolution. The role will involve inferring gene and species trees for land plants, identifying genes enriched in guard cells/stomatal function, and studying their evolution using phylogenetics and comparative genomics. You will work in a team of bioinformaticians, evolutionary and plant molecular biologists on both published and new genomic and transcriptomic data.

For informal enquiries, please contact Prof. Alistair Hetherington on ( Alistair.Hetherington@bristol.ac.uk ) or Dr. Tom Williams ( tom.a.williams@bristol.ac.uk ).

We welcome applications from all members of our community and are particularly encouraging those from diverse groups, such as members of the LGBT+ and BAME communities, to join us.
